2006 China Grand Prix
October 4th 2006 09:51
A total of 56 laps- over 1hour, 37minutes and 32.747 seconds of riveting racing-from the Chinese Grand Prix. This was a great race right from start to finish. With the two Renault drivers starting on the first row of the grid it almost seemed like all of Ferrari’s hopes were going to go down the drain. As the race results show it was not to be so.
On the very first lap of the race the grid saw many changes with Kimmi overtaking Jenson Button and soon after overtaking Rubens Barrichello. It did not take him long to overtake Fisichella. The aggressive nature of Kimi should have won him his first victory for this season. But it was not to be the Chinese Grand Prix saw Kimmi retire in the mid session the engine throttle mechanism failure. His first race victory this season is still not in sight, with Kimi scheduled to move to Ferrari next season he must want to prove to his new team that he is the best bet out there. Schumacher determined to retire has not retired his resilient spirit. Starting 6th on the grid Schumacher was off to fastest lap after another and slowly made his way through the traffic, the only way he knew how- with EASE. By the second round of pit stops arrived. Schumacher had already made enough ground to get a comfortable lead to add Alonso’s injury the Renault Pit stop was less than perfect. Definitely not what Alonso or the Renault team wanted at this stage. Schumacher then drove strategically saving his tires, engine and his fuel to end the race comfortably ahead of Alonso.
Overall a Great weekend for Ferrari, not so good one for Renault. Although Schumacher has the lead with over 7 races to his name this season to Alonso’s 6. No Doubt the Ferrari ace is determined to re-gain the crown he considers his own. As for Schumacher it is clearly is a make-or-break season as he ends his racing career. No doubt Ferrari will go the extra mile to enable Schumacher to reach his goal as he has made sure Ferrari has held its head high.
