BMW SAUBER

January 12th 2007 03:50

The Team: Full name BMW Sauber F1 Team The team is based in Hinwil, Switzerland and Munich, Germany- yes the team has two bases. The team was founded by Peter Sauber in 1993 and named Sauber F1. After BMW and Williams F1 Split in 2005 BMW bought Sauber, But decided to keep the Sauber name. The new and reformed Team has its principal Mario Theissen (Germany), Technical director Willy Rampf (Germany) , Race drivers number 9 Nick Heidfeld (Germany), number 10 Robert Kubica (Poland). Test drivers Sebastian Vettel (Germany) and Timo Glock (Germany). The Team believes that the “Essence of racing is Power, Passion Precision, Team work”. The 2006 season saw a lot of change in the team leading to a not so good performance in 2006 but the team says they are ready for the next season and will be coming back stronger and more competitive in 2007.

In 2006 the team used their “F1.06” Chassis, their self developed Engine “BMW P86” again one of the teams who raced on the Michelin Tyres. The Team made its Debut as BMW Sauber F1 in 2006 at the Bahrain Grand Prix. They currently have no Constructors' Championships or Drivers' Championships to their name neither do they have any
Race victories, Pole positions or Fastest laps none but they were mighty close. They did however have very close battles and fought really hard to gain the 36 points enabling them to gain the 5th Position in 2006. The Sauber Team rose from being a back marker in 2005 to being one of the front runners and gained 5th position in 2006 and they promise to deliver more and are probably looking forward to being in the top 3 in 2007. From the looks of it, it is Possible. The 2007 unveiling of the team and car is set to the 17th January and it is rumored to have a hint of red in its car that is unusual for the usual black grey and White of the BMW.

Trivia- BMW stands for Bayerische Motoren Werke or Bavarian Motor Works. Not surprsingly it is German owned. The Team says they are ready for the second season are you ready for the unveiling.

Panasonic Toyota Racing

January 7th 2007 09:38

Based out of Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Germany. The team entered Formula 1 in 2002 at the Australian Grand Prix and decided to stay. Today the Toyota is not only a team actively involved in racing but is also an engine supplier to two other teams.
In 2006 the team displayed a stunning performance securing 6th position having scored 35 points one point behind BMW Sauber definitely a great achievement for the team, one Fastest Lap and 2 Pole positions.
THE TEAM

The Team is led by Team principal Tsutomu Tomita of Japan, the Technical director Pascal Vasselon from France. Race driver’s number11. Ralf Schumacher of Germany and number 12. Jarno Trulli of Italy. Test drivers Franck Montagny of France, Kohei Hirate Kamui Kobayashi of Japan. Toyota is one of the rare teams which used the Bridgestone tyres in 2006 and notably were the first team to unveil their new car. It was intended to give them an edge over their opponents although they did not start too well in winter testing. They did however secure third place in Australia, but failed to score a podium finish during 2006. The closest they came was in Monaco where Jarno Trulli did come close, but the retired due to engine failure during the late few laps of the race. The team retains the same drivers in 2007 as in 2006 with Trulli and Schumacher. Another milestone for the Toyota team was that they were also supplying engines, not only to the works team, but to Williams who who did not do as well as they would have hoped for with the Cosworth engines in 2006. They are hoping to do better with the Toyota.

IN 2006 the team had 12 retirements one 3rd place and 2 fourth places with their Toyota RVX-07 Engine which was set into the Toyota TF107 and TF107B Chasis. Yes they used two chasis during the season. By their standards they underperformed to 2005 but they will be hoping to do better this year, we wish they all the best.

RED BULL RACING
RED BULL RACING
The RED BULL RACING team came into existence at the end of the 2004 season when the Australian energy drink company Red Bull purchased the underperforming Jaguar team. Their Debut year was in 2005 at the Australian Grand Prix. Here the team raced with the Cosworth engine that was then being developed for the 2005 Chasis. The Red Bull Racing has a close and long lasting relationship with Ferrari, they used the ferrari V8 engines in 2006. However they will be using a Renault V8 engine in 2007. It is to be noted that RBR is here to stay and will not leave as it is one of four teams to sign the Concorde Agreement which comes into effect in 2008.
Drivers

The team is based out of Milton Keynes in the United Kingdom. The Team principal is the British Christian Horner, Technical director, Mark Smith from the United Kingdom
Race drivers are #14. David Coulthard from the UK and #15. Australian Mark Webber. The teams Test drivers are Michael Ammermüller of Germany who has scored up some of the fastest test laps at the end of testing for 2006.

In 2006 the team used a powerful Ferrari V8 Engine built for the RB3 Chassis. They were one of the few teams using Bridgestone Tyres. In the past two years in Racing they have never won a Race, or secured a pole position, their best was in 2006 finishing in 7th position with 16 points. The team has shown continuous development in their racing and is looking at taking on the likes of Williams. They have also revamped their Pit equipment, and they want to be the best according to the team Manager Jonathan Wheatley. They have big hopes for the cars in the next year and they are looking forward to doing a good job in practice and testing with the new cars and put up a real good fight.
We can expect the Team to make a few friends and many enemies and they do their best to reach the top.

McLaren had a beautiful looking car and it seemed to be very fast, unfortunately for both the team and the drivers it did not work out as well. Mclaren however finished third managing to gain 24 points lead to Honda thanks to Kimi Raikkonen's struggle with a car that refused to do anything right. Kimmi's best result was second in Australia and third in Bahrain, Britain, Canada and Germany. Juan Pablo Montoya had his best in Monaco where he finished second before leaving formula one and taking up Indicar racing. Kimmi however was one of the most impressive drivers in 2006 , he had some real good drives but unfortunately he could not finish most of the races. The Car seemed to have over heating problems, steering trouble, gear box jams, name it the car faced it. Honda too had a season to forget, however they could take home more than Mclaren. Another driver who impressed most watchers was Button finishing first at Hungaroring. Alonso did not finish the race after he lost his right rear tyre. Schumacher did not make good after crashing with Pedro de la Rosa. The Italian Grand Prix heard the much awaited announcement that Micheal Schumacher was goin to retire at the end of the season being replaced by Kimmi Raikkonen a well deserved postion for Kimmi, believed to be a great driver who had more potential than anyone else on the track. Micheal Schumacher won the Italian Grand Prix without a challenge from anyone after Alonso struck a flat in the qualifier and he started P10 on the grid and latter retired. The end of the season saw the anouncement of the class of 2007 to be. In 2007 two more teams the Spiker MFI and Toro Rosso will be using Ferrari engines and Williams will use a Toyota engine.

2006 season review-Part 1

November 1st 2006 05:27
With the 2006 race season's spectacular season overmost drivers and teams are ready to take a break and take it easy before they start testing and get back to racing in 2007. The 200 season was undoubtedly one of the best season in a long long time, and it would be worth looking back at the season to see how things went for the class of 2006 and introduce the class of 2007 with the new race rules and the chenges within the teams.
The 2006 season started with Alonso and renault determined towin the season and it seemed that Ferrari and Schumacher could not do anything to stop it. But the second half of the season had a whole new twist to the season. Renault without doubt got the best of the season winning both the constructors title and the world championship. Alonso would be delighted with his performance winning two consecutive seaons. Fernando Alonso moves to Mc laren next season, but he made good racing for Renault in 2006 winning the Championship position with 134 points, 7 Wins, 6 Poles, owing to 5 Fastest laps. Schumacher came back chared in the scarlet Ferrari to show the world he was not goin down without a fight and what a fight it was comming back 10 races down and alonso having 5 race wins Schumacher had a tough task ahead. Michael Schumacher racing for Ferrari secured 2nd place in the championship with 121 points with equal 7 wins with Alonso, and 4 Poles, with 7 Fastest laps. he was teh fastest man this season. Massa did well to finght with Ferrari proving that he was a good catch winning 2 races this season and securing Third place for Ferrari and Fisichella and Button went on to win one race each. Ferrari won 9 races, Renault won 8 and Honda won one race. However Kimmi and Mclaren had a year to forget. Although they finished 3 unfortunately their best was just "Best of the Rest".

Overshadowed by greatness

October 23rd 2006 01:02
Filipe Massa drove amazingly well to win his second grand Prix, and he was delighted to do so, on home soil. Probably his greatest achievement till date as he is the first "Brazilian" driver to win his home race since Ayrton Senna in 1993. Massa controlled the race from start to finish; one could rarely see any glitches in his driving or the car. Schumacher was not as lucky he suffered a puncture earlier in the race and drove amazingly to recover from that and finish fourth. Schumacher raced the only way he knew how with style, Passion, committed to make the best of what he had. He clocked several fastest laps and had the Fastest lap of the race clocking an amazing 1:12.162, on lap 70. An amazing drive to start from 10th place on the grid and then suffer a puncture and having to replace tyres in an unscheduled pit stop. Michael said he was never destined to win the Title. But his spectacular drive on the last race of his career pretty much summed up all his great works. Michael bids good bye to racing with a record 7 Titles to his name and 91 race wins and many more records that may never be beaten. Ferrari may not have won the Constructors Title Schumacher may not have won the last race of his career and he may not have won the World championship title, but no one is talking about anything else but Schumacher retiring and that he will leave a void in the racing world. Alonso's second title win has been overshadowed by Michael Schumacher’ spectacular drives to finish his career even without the race win. Arguably the greatest racing driver formula one has ever know, more record to his name than any other we Bid farewell to The German with guts that got him glory- To Michael Schumacher we will always miss you. Thank you for the great moments you gave us in racing.
